    Between the Worlds review

I feel there is some serious problem with the game developers! Or is it that the world of gaming really running out of ideas? Don’t know what exactly is the reason, but it is we gamers who stand to lose everything in this confusion. Between the Worlds is a frontrunner for the “Dud Game of the Year” award!

So, here is the review that is going to throw light on most of the negatives that I could detect in the game and the positives that I really tried hard to find. Starting with the theme or the storyline behind the game let me tell you that the story is a complete spoiler. The developers want us to believe that the city of Los Angeles has been swept by a deluge of crimes and you as a gamer are the only one who has the power to restore normalcy. You are an old warhorse detective (male or female depends upon your choice) and the County Sheriff has called you to clear the mess. Yes, you are really there in the middle of a mess when you need to find objects strewn all over the city streets like Butterfly, Corkscrew, TV remote and saxophone. The city police have better jobs to do than picking up cucumber from the garbage bin! Now, the biggest U-turn in the game: You find out that there is a sorcerer who is behind all the nasty things and he wants to take over the city by using his magical powers. You also have a female assistant named Lea (if you are a male detective) and a male assistant called Alex (if you are a female detective).

The game is based on the classic hidden objects game play where you need to find out the hidden objects at a specified location. The game takes a more unfair turn when you realize that after clicking on an object like ‘cigar’ earns you no points because there is more than one ‘cigar’ present in the scene. Most of the time, the objects are hidden behind others in such a way that you require to scan the screen multiple times to find them. You also are penalized a minute from the total time of the game play for clicking wrongly. You are given the choice of going for the hints at least 5 times in each level.

Next in the line is that you need to open up numerous items in one of searches for collecting 16 amulets. But after clicking on the objects you may receive an error sound and also you lose some time from your total game play. This can be really frustrating. The game has its fair share of mini games along with bonus levels. Logic, memory and mazes are part of the mini games. There is no option of skipping the mini games and they have to be solved to proceed further in the game.

Conclusion: I really wanted to write something positive about the game, but the developers did not leave any room for that. Hope these types of games are screened properly before being put on sale. They are not only a waste of money, but also a waste of a gamer’s time.
