Coyote’s Tale: Fire and Water review

The Aztec mythology says that god Coyote was known for his tricks and pranks though at times these boomeranged. In the game Coyote’s Tale: Fire and Water, you will not only get to see mythological characters like Coyote and others, but also will get the opportunity to met them in person.

This game is based on the track of the hidden games and starts with the story of two women who are holidaying in Mexico. In the meantime they meet Max and Coyote, the Aztec gods and thus begin the interesting journey of the two sisters. The gods tell them that they can save themselves from future chaos if they manage to successfully overcome the challenges presented to them. The two sisters will have to solve a total of 15 challenges presented to them by the Aztec gods and it is the only way by which they can salvage normalcy for the universe.

You have the option of choosing one of the two sisters. If you play with Atl, then you have the chance to play the game in relaxed mood as she represents water but there is specific time limit if you play with the other sister Tltel as she represents fire. So it is up to you how you decide to play the game.

A total of 15 chapters are there in the game where you will be visiting 18 Aztec shrines spread across Mexico. These shrines include places like Quetzacoatl palace, Tenochtitlan ruins and Mitla tombs. There are also some locations like cave, cornfield and waterfall too where you will have to find the hidden objects. Every time you complete the tasks successfully, it will recharge the magic staff of the girl and she will get an opportunity to challenge a god. Each god will present you with their challenge in the form of a mini game and once you complete that you can move on to the next chapter.

In the absence of penalties, you have the freedom of clicking randomly to find the list of words or images on the list. The number of hints per chapter is limited but you can earn hints by clicking on the flowers present in a scene. The mini games that are presented by the gods are very interesting and include anything from a puzzle to a memory game. You also have the option of skipping the mini games.

Conclusion: The game incorporates the mythological stories and settings of the Aztec culture and one can learn many interesting things about them. The game could have been made much more interesting if the voice acting and the dialogues were of better quality. I do not understand the contrasting gaming logic of the developers because they have presented the Aztec gods as cartoons while the other elements of the game follows the photorealistic style. The game can prove to be a cakewalk for the experienced campaigners as the repeated scenes do not include many new elements.
Coyote’s Tale: Fire and Water cannot be called as a straight winner, but it can be played at least once.
