Flux Family Secrets: The Ripple Effect review

A game to celebrate after a long time! Flux Family Secrets: The Ripple Effect is a great game that intertwines hidden object game play along with adventure game play to present us with one of the most enjoyable game of its genre.

The storyline of the game goes something like this: Jessie is a young girl and she knows nothing about her childhood or her past. One day she receives a letter from the family called Flux and she is informed that she can know every type of information about her obscure past by finding the artifacts that she will be directed to. She has to find out the artifacts by traveling in a magical device.

The game is divided into 10 chapters and you will get the opportunity to visit three special historical places of the world: Abbey Road recording studio (1960), Shakespeare’s theatre (England), Ancient China of the Confucious’s era. The best part of the game is that you will get the opportunity to meet many famous historical characters in person and help them to find out items from categories like Art, Science etc.

There are many tool items that will help you to crack the puzzles. For instance, you will get the chance to use the Lockpick to unlock the cupboard. The biggest difference from all the other games in this genre is that here you will not be searching for one complete item and instead you will be finding out some pieces only. You will have to travel back to the three scenes at regular intervals because different pieces are spread across the scenes. So, to complete an item you will have to revisit the scenes numerous times.

The mini games in the game are not only interesting but at times really challenging. Well, if you wish to skip the mini games, then you can do it. The only problem is that you need to tackle the problem of addition of extra minutes. Actually there is no time limit in the game and has abundance of hints. The hints are so good that you not only get the hint on the exact location of an object but also provides with instructions for the next step to be taken.

The magnifying glass can come in handy at times but won’t be very useful every time. There are ten time periods, so you many visit the same location several times, but the settings would be different.

Conclusion: There are many scenes that seem to stretch too long like Albert Einstein in the chapter Antiquities of Music. The storyline is riveting because there are several occasions when Jesse starts to doubt the real intentions of the Flux Family. The ending could have been a tad better. You can replay the game after completing all the states and this aspect is really refreshing. There are some hiccups, but the good graphics and background sound makes up for the losses. All in all this was technically not a very sound game, but thoroughly enjoyable.

This one is a nice game featuring Donald Duck for little kids who just started to learn numbers.
