Haunted Hotel II: Believe the Lies review

The release of ‘Haunted Hotel-ll: Believe the Lies’ was the most unexpected event of this year because I don’t think anybody who had played its prequel Haunted Hotel would wish to get tortured by a similar game. The haunted hotel was marred by almost all the technical problems that a game can expect to. There was problem with its graphics, audio and even the English. I started to play the Haunted Hotel-ll: Believe the Lies with very little expectations and this time also the production house delivered a game that was only a reflection of my gut feelings.

For the start the story has been presented in a better manner. Short sentences and better graphics are two things that we can say makes the game worth playing at least once. But the storyline is full of ambiguity and is not very easily understandable. The story continues after a year of the old events and the FBI agent lands up in a different hotel where he caries forward is investigation. Actually the agent feels there is something fishy about the hotel and its occupants. He starts to investigate one room after the other.

The hotel does not bear any marks of being haunted as the last one and you need to lead the agent to different rooms to find out different hidden objects. The inventory seems to get some importance over here and thins are added at intervals. After completing the task properly, you will be moving to the investigation phase. Here, you have to find out the object to click on to move ahead in the game. For instance, you will have to click on the guest book at the welcome desk. There is ample supply of hints (5 per scene) and also you need worry about the time as there are no timers in the game.

One more positive aspect of this game is that there is an improvement in the variety of the mini-games and you have the option of skipping them. Some of the mini-games are like finding out the computer code and fuse box hacking.

The dialogues, though not better, but are definitely shorter and comes as a breather for the gamers. The scenes for the hidden object tasks carry freshness in them and also follow a particular theme. For instance the rooms of the hotel occupants follow a particular them like the musician’s room being full of musical instruments and pictures of Beethoven. Despite all the above things, the items in the game do not forget to repeat themselves and also the inventory based puzzles predictable enough.

The sounds flow like Beethoven’s music (with all the ups and downs) and at times really become unbearable because of their ill timing. Actually one does not need any sound in the background while searching for a pin or a paper clipper!

Conclusions: I found the game to be short (2hours) and it also does not have enough for a gamer to revisit it. All in all it could have been much better and ‘Haunted Hotel-ll: Believe the lies’ would not have disappointed gamers like me by flattering to deceive the second time.

Sprill must survive his best friend's outlandish experiments, which sends a temporal whirlwind ripping through time and mixing up items from different ages.
