Hidden in Time: Mirror Mirror review

Yet another inclusion in the hidden object games genre is the Hidden in Time: Mirror Mirror. Well, the game may not look like a great one, but it is not that bad either. The good news is that you are the descendent of a castle owner and the name of the castle is ‘Castle Fairwich’. The bad news is that you have to solve a mystery about an ancestral legend of magic mirror in the castle and that too within nine days! After nine days the castle will be sold and you need to hurry things! Sounds interesting… right?

After you arrive at the castle you learn about the wonder tale of a magic mirror. This mirror was shattered when the duke refused to accept his daughter’s marriage with a maid’s son. You need to find resemblance of nine broken mirror pieces from which you could discover the past. It would also revive the fate of young Jack and Marion, the other two characters in the game.

In this game, there are all total nine levels on three different locations but in every location you have to play the game twice. If you are through with the first round, you will find items on the classic list of the hidden objects. After completing the second round, you can find more items and can uncover the three secret objects like the portrait of Fairwich clan, the key or the locked box. In the portrait, there are few secret messages embedded; the message is ‘mirror mirror’. The key helps you to unlock the box which has 9 mirror shards.

There are three mini games within the game, which is all about mirrors, the jumbled images and spotting the difference. But none of the games are exciting or encouraging. One act that puts a little thrill in the game: Getting the reflection of the mirror. You need to make certain adjustments in the mirror so that you could produce the beam light for reading the hidden message. Spot the difference mini game is bit trickier and the garbled messages are quite difficult to read.

The game Hidden in time: Mirror Mirror is a well designed and a varied game. The game bears a cheeky sense of humor. Like when you click on the rubber duck and it’s not your item on the list, it will quack. If you search for a “belly bell”, it will take you to the bell shaped young girl from south wearing petticoats. Even when you are playing it straight, the game will run smoothly and your searches will be more interesting. So you require to find items like sailboats, scissors and screws and other such hidden objects, which speaks about a fish bottle or a rotten pear (that’s what you call hints!)

The storyline of the game is gripping, but being a short one fails to enchant veterans like us. Even if you visit the locations twice, it won’t take you long to finish the game. After unlocking mirrored mode which is similar to the original version of the game, you have to play in completely different environment. Although they are not so exciting, but it does extend the game play. If you like to play hidden objects games, you will surely like this. It has smart, good items to choose from and also has the humorous streak that many games in its genre fail to produce.
