    Liong: The Lost Amulets review

The Liong: The Lost Amulets is the sequel of Lion: The Dragon Dance, which was launched a few months back. This game like its predecessor takes a new approach and presents a good mix of hidden object games and tile matching challenges. Though, it presents a new blend, but the game still lacks a few thins that could have probably given a whole new feel.

The story of Liong: The Lost Amulets goes like this that the 5 amulets that are required to keep the elements of nature in balance are lost. You are vested with the task to bring them back and salvage the nature’s lost balance. Sounds very boring? No, actually the stylish and interesting challenges that are presented to you by the two different game modes make the game really a fun to play. The two modes that the game offers are Adventure Mode and Traditional Mode. The Adventure Mode is tougher than the Traditional mode as it offers alternate challenges during each stage. Here, you will get to move between classic hidden game play and scenes were you are required to match the playing pieces of icons to find out the magical letters.

The stage where one is required to play the hidden object games suffers from the problem of finding many small items like yin-yang medallions and padlocks. It can prove to be very monotonous and frustrating to find the 26 small objects like the bulges and hammers. It is also very frustrating to spot 12 differences in two identical pictures; number of differences could have been easily reduced. There are also instances where you have to find an object mentioned, but you actually see that there are quite a number of objects matching to the one that you are asked to find. For example the scene where you are required to find a brush but there is both a toothbrush and a hairbrush in the scene. So, which one do you choose?

The ‘mah jong’ effect can be felt from the tiles that you are offered; the tiles have been marked with graphics like animals, rainbow patterns etc. that are to be chosen by the users. You need to clear the tiles in order to move to the next level. 5 different tiles appear in the screen below and you are required to click on the tile that you feel matches with the one in the grid. Now, if there are still some moves left, then the tile that you had clicked will sparkle providing an indication to you or making further moves. The tile game is a little time consuming because the game responds a little late to the moves.

Conclusion: The game as a whole has a very endearing charm to it in the form of good graphics, great interface and very pleasing music (with an Asian feel). The mini games and the origami pattern matches provide the game with an edge. Every stage has an exciting point system, so you get the energy to move on to the next level without felling frustrated or bored. But the game never was very compelling and that leaves us with the void that we really never expected. The poor narrations and some grammatical errors did play spoilsport at some point, but still on the whole it was quite a refreshing game to play.
