Real Crimes: The Unicorn Killer review

In every hidden object game, the “whodunit” is one of the most important ingredients. “Whodunit” is all about serious crime thrillers and this game won’t let you down with some raw spine chilling crime thrillers. Since the title indicates that “real crimes: the unicorn killer” is about different twists of events and incidents in the game that revolves around a murder mystery and most importantly the story is based on true incidents.

Jennifer Lourdes an FBI agent is after Ira Einhorn, who is actually a hippie guru, but has turned into a murderer after killing his ex-girlfriend. This murder landed him in the jail and he is still alive serving a life sentence. An important aspect is there about the last name of the murderer which is Einhorn’s and this name signifies the word “unicorn killer.”

Be ready to deal with some ‘real crimes’ and so it may seem to be a little unsettling for people with weak heart. The story is well written and gives an impression of the true crime stories as shown in the TV reality shows. The game begins with the details about the death of Holly, the real culprit of the act. Later in the game, Jennifer along with Alan, her mentor, travels to various hunts of Ira, like – the park where Ira demonstrated rallies and protests. They even visit Ira’s apartment for finding out clues about his current endeavors.

In every investigation process, you need to search for items that serve as clues. You have been given only 10 minutes of time and for every random clicking spree, you will be penalized with 45 seconds being subtracted from the clock. However, you can add 30 seconds by clicking on three objects within a short time span of 15 seconds. If you want a relaxed mode, you can deactivate the clock.

The game is interesting with its locations, where you have to explore 20 different places and often these are repeated. On every replay, the scene will change and you have to play the game in a different environment. The game is not a unique one and is identical to all hidden object games. It was a clumsy effort on the part of the people who developed the hidden object inventories. It was all the same inventories in different scenes. However, as the story line was gripping, the errors can be compromised with.

There is yet another feature, which I didn’t like; there is no auto saving mode for the game progress, so if you loose, you lose all the progress. There were occasional spelling mistakes and sometimes the objects in the scenes get repeated. However, the game is short and would take nearly a couple of hours to complete.

The most interesting part of Real Crimes: The Unicorn Killer is that it is an adaptation of a real life story! If you are a true fan of crime thrillers then this is a treat lying in store for you. Go ahead and play it.
