    Relic Hunt review

Relic Hunt is the new game in the hidden object gaming arena and to be true to the gamers from all over the world (even the Gamer’s soul inside me) it was neither worth the wait nor the money. Now, when I started out before the game reviews and comments started pouring in, I was excited about this game but the minute I started to read through the storyline half of my interest died! Let me tell you about my “relic hunt” (read an interesting game) that I expected to beat the others in the genre. Well, to be fair I failed miserably in my mission and I was not the only one who failed, but also has developers giving me company!

The story of the game goes something like this: Melvin Jones is the great explorer who has a grandson called Marcus. Marcus is someone who loves to spend his life daydreaming and doesn’t at all have any interest in exploring new countries or unknown lands. Suddenly misfortune befalls upon Marcus and his grandfather expires. Though not aware of the ground realities, Marcus finds out that his grandfather has left the family treasures in different islands and this is what Marcus has to find out if he wants to lead an easy life!

Marcus has his grandfather’s journal to help him in locating the islands where the treasure is hidden in parts. There are a total of 7 exotic islands where the treasures are hidden and this is what you have to locate and lay claim to. Though Marcus was not much into sailing ships or exploring islands, but when he starts out, the blood of the sailor in his body gives him the natural instincts to sail through the rough weather. This is all with the story and if you think that there is something more then let me warn you, you are not going to get anything new as far as the storyline is concerned. The things that help him are his grandfather’s journal and an old map.

There are a total of 200 levels in the game and you need to solve puzzles, play the minigames and scour through cluttered locations in the classic hidden object gaming style to locate the treasure pieces. There are a lot of things that you have to do to earn only a few things. The hidden object levels present to you a list or a silhouette to locate the items. There are fair amounts of hints so you are not going to find it very difficult to cross the levels. You would even have to find the objects by solving riddles.

Conclusion: The game is not at all interesting both in terms of the story as well as the gameplay. Actually, there is nothing new in the game and at the same time the basics are missing! First and foremost is the weak storyline; story, we all gamers feel works as the glue in a game which binds all the elements together. The second problem is the lesser degree of challenge presented in the gameplay that takes away the sheen from the game. You can breeze through the levels without any problems. There were also few problems with the graphics and the music. The graphics at times reflects the shoddy work done by the developers and we get to see that when few images are blurred. The music is also very repetitive and you can even sense the pause after which the music repeats itself.
